Francis Yuen interviewed by Channel News Asia at t
Francis Yuen, Climate Solutions Asia-Pacific President was interviewed by Channel News Asia TV channel at the China Pavilion (Shanghai Expo) recently and the interview was broadcast on "East Asia Tonight" news on 23 June on Channel News Asia TV channel. It is some of the pre-event publicity for the World Cities Summit in Singapore, which Trane Singapore participated with exhibition booth from June 30 to July 1.

The TV program session talked about the energy saving technology applied in the China pavilion and how environmentally friendly the building is and Francis came in to explain how our air conditioning systems contributed to achieve the target.

“The China pavilion uses the technology called ice storage system and in our lingual is actually thermal storage system. Essentially it is a system where we utilize the low tariff for electricity in the evening to make ice using our efficient chillers and in the day when a big load of electricity is very high as everybody uses power, we stop using our chillers and use the ice melted and convert it into chilled water to cool the building” explained by Francis to the reporter.

Trane has equipped the China Pavilion with 6 highly efficient chillers which are installed in the Pavilion with an ice storage system. The ice storage system saves not only the air conditioning operating cost by making full use of the different electricity price between day and night, but also reduces the air conditioning load by 30% at peak hours by using the ice made at night. CO2 (carbon dioxide) monitoring devices are used to ensure minimum indoor fresh air to ensure comfort and maximum energy efficiency.
